Important information for drivers.

  • Four weeks of road rebuilding work will begin on State Highway 6 near Owen River from next Monday. A daytime stop/go with a temporary speed limit of 30 km/h will be in place between 7 am and 5:30 pm, Monday to Friday. The temporary speed limits will remain in place, 24/7, including Labour Weekend, until the work is completed. Because there are multiple work sites between Nelson and Murchison, we recommend road users allow an extra 30 minutes when travelling this route.

The details below outline the main planned state highway roadworks occurring in the greater Wellington region and the top of the South Island over the coming week (from Saturday, 19 October).

Note: Road works are dependent on weather and other factors. Bad weather can see work postponed to the next suitable night in the works programme.
