From tomorrow, 11 December, pupils from the new Frankton School near Queenstown along with local residents and tourists will be able to cross State Highway 6 with even greater safety.
A new set of pedestrian traffic signals funded by the NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) should be operating by the end of this week on State Highway 6 between McBride and Humphrey Streets in Frankton.
Project Manager John Jarvis says the installation of the signals is part of safety improvement work being carried out by the NZ Transport Agency to cater for the new Frankton Primary School opening early next year. The new signals will enable school children and general pedestrians to safely cross what is a busy section of State Highway 6.
Work on widening and improving safety at the McBride Street intersection is expected to be completed later next week. The cost of the pedestrian signals is $90,000 and the intersection widening about $70,000.
