Lower North Island/Upper South Island - Planned state highway roadworks

|

Important information for drivers

Matariki Holiday Weekend:

  • The holiday weekend means drivers can expect to see more traffic, travel delays, and congestion as people head away and return from their long weekends. If you are on the roads this weekend, please drive safely and ensure you reach your destination safely.
  • When the roads are busy, it's essential to be patient and overtake safely. Remember, speeding is not a risk worth taking. If you're driving long distances, make sure to take regular breaks. Driver fatigue can cause crashes.
  • Make sure you check your car before you travel. Make sure your Warrant of Fitness is current, and do a basic maintenance check before you hit the road—oil, tyre pressure, etc. These simple steps could save you from major problems. Don’t let a breakdown spoil your holiday.
  • More tips and advice can be found on the NZTA/Waka Kotahi website

Lower North Island:

Top of the South Island:

  • The installation of new safety barriers on the State Highway 60 Ruby Bypass was completed earlier this week. All traffic management has been removed and the highway is fully open day and night.
  • Work is underway preparing for the construction of a new roundabout near Blenheim airport on State Highway 6 – Woodbourne.
  • Work has been extended until 12 July to complete improvements to the Whakatu Coastal Pathway section of the Great Taste Cycle Trail in Nelson alongside State Highway 6, Whakatu Drive.
  • Drivers heading over State Highway 60 Tākaka Hill can expect delays at an underslip site near the Riwaka Valley Road intersection. Stop/Go traffic management and a 30 km/h temporary speed limit are in place until further notice. Updates will be provided following further site investigations.
