Holiday makers and locals need to be ready for a Top of the South summer soaking on the roads

|

With Metservice weather warnings and watches in place for the Top of the South Island, drivers in the region are urged to take care on the roads and prepare for potentially hazardous driving conditions.

A heavy rain warning is in place for Tasman, northwest of Motueka, for 30 hours from midnight Wednesday with 120-180 mm of rain forecast. This will affect State Highway 60 in Tākaka/Golden Bay.

Meanwhile, a heavy rain watch is in place for the Richmond and Bryant Ranges, the Rai Valley, and the Marlborough Sounds from 6 am on Thursday. This covers State Highway 6 between Nelson and Havelock.

Heavy rain may cause streams and rivers to rise rapidly. Flooding and slips are also possible, and driving conditions may be hazardous. Road users should drive to the conditions, watch their speed and following distances, and check road conditions before travelling.
