More bad weather is set to bring challenging driving conditions on the roads.
The Metservice has issued a strong wind warning for Wellington, Wairarapa, and the Marlborough Sounds for tomorrow (Thursday, 26 October). A strong wind watch is also in place for the Marlborough and the Tararua districts. Severe gale north-westerlies of up to 120 km/h in exposed places are forecast.
The winds will affect all state highways in the affected regions, which means road users, especially motorcyclists, truck, van, cyclists, and campervan drivers, will need to take extra care on the roads.
Drivers need to be alert to potential treefalls, downed powerlines, crosswinds, and blown debris. The bad weather will also coincide with peak commuter periods. Drivers are urged to be prepared and drive to the conditions.
Extra care will be needed in exposed areas such as State Highway 2 Remutaka Hill and the Wainui Saddle on State Highway 1, Transmission Gully.
