Update: Hebden Crescent safety improvements continue

|

Update 7 June

From the night of Sunday, June 9 (weather dependent), the Hebden Crescent/State Highway 2 intersection near Liverton Road will be temporarily closed while contractors construct the widened left turn slip lane into Hebden Crescent, including drainage works, install a concrete island, pave the road, and install signage and line marking.

The intersection is expected to be closed for around six weeks.

During this time, in addition to permanently removing the right-hand turns already in place, vehicles won’t be able to turn left, in and out of the Hebden Crescent/State Highway 2 intersection near Liverton Road.

While the intersection is temporarily closed, vehicles wanting to turn left into Hebden Crescent can use the Hebden Crescent intersection near Owen Street - opposite Belmont Domain.

To exit Hebden Crescent and head south, vehicles must turn around at the SH2/SH58 interchange.

For your convenience, drivers and residents can check electronic messaging boards at the construction site and intersection for confirmed dates or delayed changes due to construction and/or weather. This will ensure you stay updated and can plan your journeys accordingly.

Hebden Crescent by Liverton Road intersection changes

The Hebden Crescent intersection by Liverton Road will be converted to allow only left-hand turns in and out. The ability to turn right will be removed and the median barrier extended to make it continuous.

Hebden Crescent near Owen Street intersection changes

The intersection at Hebden Crescent near Owen Street will be closed and road users will be diverted to use Hebden Crescent by Liverton Road or Haywards (SH2/SH58) Interchange for access.

24 May

With construction continuing on these safety improvements, there are some upcoming changes to Hebden Crescent that drivers and residents need to be prepared for.

Changes are being made at two critical State Highway 2 intersections with Hebden Crescent to improve public safety.

From Sunday  evening, 26 May, weather permitting, contractors will make changes to remove right-hand turns in and out of the State Highway 2 / Hebden Crescent intersection by Liverton Road.

Work crews will also extend the median barrier at this section of State Highway 2, making it continuous. The changes are being made because the intersection has the potential for serious side-impact crashes. This work is expected to take around three weeks to complete.

Further work is also planned from early June, which will temporarily close the State Highway 2/Hebden Crescent by Liverton Road.

This closure, which is expected to last around six weeks, is to allow the construction of a new left turn slip lane, a new traffic island, and the installation of new road markings.

The safety improvements will increase travel times for people accessing Hebden Crescent, Liverton Road and Gurney Road – particularly those wanting to travel south along State Highway, as drivers will have to use the State Highway 58 interchange.

However, the intersection changes will improve overall driver safety and minimise disruption for people travelling on State Highway 2.

NZTA/Waka Kotahi wants to thank the public for their patience and cooperation as road crews work hard to finish this project
