Good progress on summer highway maintenance works

|

Work is progressing well on the NZ Transport Agency"s summer programme of state highway maintenance work in South Canterbury.

Motorists are being asked for their continued patience for the next two months as work continues on two sites along State Highway 1; the first being reconstruction of the highway near Dominion Road, between Temuka and Timaru, and the second the resurfacing of various sites from Timaru to Glenavy.

The Transport Agency"s Journey Manager Lee Wright says contractors have already completed preparation work for improvements along the length of the passing lanes, near Dominion Road.

"The next phase is to add a new layer of roading material to be compacted and sealed. This stage will be followed by similar works from the end of the passing lanes south to just past Lynch Road."

She says this work includes some safety improvements at the intersection of the state highway with Lynch Road and the northern entrance of Acacia Drive to improve both visibility and access for vehicles turning in and out of the side roads.

"This work will result in longer traffic delays, of up to 10 minutes, until the work is completed at the end of April, with temporary speed restrictions in place and single-lane, stop-go traffic operations."

Delays of up to 10 minutes can also be expected by motorists until the end of this month on State Highway 1 between Timaru and Glenavy as work continues on resurfacing a number of areas. "Temporary speed restrictions are in place, along with single-lane stop-go traffic operations."

The resurfacing of various sites on State Highway 82, from Waimate to Kurow, on State Highway 8, between Fairlie and Timaru, and on State Highway 79, from Geraldine to Fairlie, will be the last in this year"s resealing programme to be completed. Work is underway along these three highways and will be completed by the end of March.
