People will have the opportunity to find out more about proposals to connect Horsham Downs and Resolution Drive to the Hamilton section of the Waikato Expressway at an information day this month.
Representatives from the NZ Transport Agency, Waikato District Council and Hamilton City Council will be at the Horsham Downs Community Hall on April 23, from 2pm until 7pm.
They will explain proposed plans to connect the city to the expressway, and the subsequent changes to Hamilton’s road network.
The proposed changes would see Resolution Drive extended to meet and cross the new section of expressway to link with Horsham Downs Road. The Transport Agency is also proposing to stop Osborne Road on either side of the expressway and provide alternative walking and cycling connections, in consultation with the Horsham Downs community.
The proposal to stop Osborne Road and extend Resolution Drive to the expressway and across to Horsham Downs road is subject to the designation process which will be publically notified and people are encouraged to participate in the process.
The Transport Agency’s Waikato highway manager, Kaye Clark says members of the public can call in any time during the information day to see the proposed designs and learn more about the project. The Transport Agency will also be seeking feedback on proposed walking and cycling facilities in the area.
“The Transport Agency has worked closely with Hamilton City Council, Waikato District Council and Tainui Group Holdings to make sure that the expressway connects to the local road network in a way that supports planned growth and development while also keeping communities linked, Ms Clark says.
“We’d like to encourage as many people as possible to attend this information day to see our plans, learn more about the project and give their feedback.”
People who are unable to attend the public information day can find out more about the project and provide feedback regarding the proposed connections at: www.nzta.govt.nz/hamilton(external link)
The Waikato Expressway is one of seven Roads of National Significance (RoNS) identified by the government as key to unlocking New Zealand’s potential for economic growth.
The $972 million Hamilton section is expected to be underway by the end of the year after the Transport Agency board approved funding last month.
The Hamilton section includes an interchange with north facing ramps at Resolution Drive, full interchanges at Greenhill Road and Ruakura and a southern interchange near Cherry Lane at Tamahere, which will provide north facing ramps.
The Southern interchange also includes an east west connection over the expressway for local traffic at Tamahere.
