Dunedin motorists are being advised of delays on State Highway 1 (Pine Hill Road) from this Sunday (19 January) with work due to get underway replacing the road surface.
The NZ Transport Agency's Otago Senior Network Manager John Jarvis says at the southern end of the work area the asphalt has reached the end of its life, while at the northern end, there is some cracking in the road surface that needs to be repaired.
The existing road pavement will be removed and the highway resurfaced with asphalt. This will improve the surface of the highway, while also making it safer for motorists and reducing maintenance along this section of the highway.
The work will be carried out at night, from 6pm to 7am, along 276 metres of State Highway 1, from the George Street overbridge to just south of the Great King Street intersection and east along Great King Street for about 50 metres.
"Motorists need to be aware there will be some delays while the work is carried out and detours will be in place," Mr Jarvis says.
It is expected to take four to five days to complete, dependent on weather, and cost about $107,000.
