The NZ Transport Agency advises Waikato motorists to allow extra time when travelling, with a number of detours in place around the region over the next week.
Ngaruawahia section of the Waikato Expressway
Detours will be in place from early on Monday morning for up to four days and nights to allow contractors to complete drainage works.
From 7am Monday 14 December the south-bound lanes will be closed for up to two days with traffic detoured off the expressway via Taupiri, Horotiu and through Ngaruawahia on Great South Road.
Once work on the southbound lanes is complete, northbound traffic will be similarly detoured for up to two days.
Drivers are advised to allow an extra five minutes travel time due to the detour.
The detour will be removed if works are finished earlier than planned.
ROAD CLOSURE - State Highway 39 Te Kowhai
SH39 traffic will be diverted during day-long road works in the Te Kowhai area on Sunday 13 December.
The works on SH39 near the Koura Drive roundabout include pavement repairs to remove joints and resurfacing with asphalt.
Crews will be on-site from 5am until 7pm on Sunday.
The work is weather dependent and will be postponed until Sunday December 20 if necessary.
While access to properties will be maintained at all times – people need to speak with traffic crews on site – all through traffic will be diverted on to Onion Road and Horotiu Road.
The full detour is likely to add up to 14 minutes to journey times and the Transport Agency recommends people consider an alternative route if heading to the The Base from SH39.
SH1 Huntly
People travelling on State Highway 1 through Huntly may encounter short delays this weekend while a footbridge over the highway is reinstalled.
The bridge was removed for repair by the Waikato District Council and will be reinstated on Sunday night (December 13) between 7.30pm and 1am.
SH1 will be closed between Fletcher Street and Tainui Bridge Road and a detour will be in place via local roads.
