Delays on SH1 after Terrace Tunnel crash

|

3:38pm. The NZTA advises motorists that the southbound lane of the SH1 Terrace Tunnel is closed following a multiple nose-to-tail crash this afternoon, and motorists in both directions should expect significant delays.

"We have crews working to clear the tunnel and re-open the southbound lane as soon as possible, but in the meantime we ask both northbound and southbound motorists to delay their travel or use alternative routes to avoid getting stuck in traffic," says Wellington Acting Highways and Network Operations Manager Mark Owen.

Electronic signs are active across the highway network to inform motorists of the closure. The NZTA will issue an announcement when the tunnel fully reopens.

The NZTA thanks motorists for their patience and understanding while the situation is resolved.
