State Highway 82, from Waimate to Kurow, will be closed during the day from next Monday 29 September for the deck on the Elephant Hill Stream Bridge, near Ikawai, to be replaced.
A three-kilometre detour will be in place, however this will be on a narrow sealed local road and motorists are being asked to take extra care, particularly when passing on coming vehicles, says the NZ Transport Agency’s Journey Manager Lee Wright.
“The detour route will be along Redcliffs Back Road and Waihuna Road, adding a few minutes to journey times during the next three to four weeks.
“Motorists travelling up Middle Road from Glenavy will need to travel back along SH82 towards Waimate to access the detour.”
The detour will be in place from 8.30am to 4pm, Monday to Friday, the highway being re-opened to all traffic each night and at the weekends with speed restrictions in place.
“We apologise for any inconvenience this work may cause and thank everyone for their patience.”
