Update 8:25pm: State Highway 58 is now open in both directions following a serious crash late this afternoon.
The highway was closed from around 4:45pm to 8:20pm while the Police Serious Crash Unit investigated the incident, which seriously injured two people.
NZTA/Waka Kotahi and the Wellington Transport Alliance thank drivers for their patience and cooperation while emergency services and contractors attended this incident.

State Highway 58 is closed between the Hutt Valley and Pāuatahanui following a crash near Flightys Road late this afternoon.
The incident, involving a car and motorcycle, was reported shortly after 4:30pm.
Emergency services are at the scene, and the highway is closed to all traffic.
Drivers are asked to avoid the area and use an alternative route if travelling between the Hutt Valley and Pāuatahanui.
The Police Serious Crash Unit is attending, and the highway is expected to remain closed for several hours while the crash scene is investigated
