The NZ Transport Agency has awarded an Ashburton intersection construction and traffic signals installation contract to Christchurch-based City Care Ltd.
The work at South Street and East Street/State Highway 1 involves the construction of the traffic-signal controlled intersection to service the new Progressive Enterprises Ltd supermarket, about to be built.
The highway project, worth around $1 million, is being funded by Progressive Enterprises with works programmed to be completed before Christmas this year.
Opus consultants have designed the intersection in accordance with Transport Agency and Ashburton District Council standards and consent conditions, including landscaping features.
The pavement at the intersection is being completely rebuilt with new surfacing so there will be minor traffic delays during construction in coming weeks.
