Chip sealing will take place between 9am – 4pm on Wednesday 26 April and Thursday 27 April on the roundabouts at Rea / Tetley roads and Morton Road, as part of the SH2 Waihī to Ōmokoroa safety improvements project.
Stop/Go traffic management will be in place at both roundabouts, so please allow extra time for your journey.
This work will help prevent moisture seeping into the sub-base under the road and causing potholes. Most of this work needs to happen in the warmer part of the day and can’t be done overnight.
When travelling through the sites, you will see the bitumen being sprayed, immediately followed by a truck pouring aggregate and then a roller on each ‘leg’ of the roundabout. The traffic will be stopped during this process and released once the roller has passed over. These stops will be kept to a minimum.
In the two days after the chip sealing, we’ll use the traffic moving through the site to help embed the seal. You may notice the traffic lanes changing several times during this period: this is to allow the weight of passing vehicles to help compress the new seal. This also means we don’t have to close lanes and use heavy rollers, meaning your journey through the site is less disrupted. Once the seal is properly compressed, we’ll sweep the site of any loose chip overnight and reinstate the line markings.
