People are being encouraged to provide feedback on a proposal to install no stopping lines and bus stops on Queenstown’s Stanley Street (part of State Highway 6A) between Coronation Drive and Shotover Street.
The NZ Transport Agency is consulting on the proposed removal of 17 car parks in this area: 11 between Shotover and Ballarat Streets on the northern side and six between Coronation Drive and Ballarat Street. Under the proposed changes these will be replaced by bus stops and no stopping areas. Alternative off-street parking is available in the general area.
Transport Agency Senior Road Safety Engineer Roy Johnston says the Queenstown Lakes District Council would like the bus stops to be relocated from the Camp Street bus hub to Stanley Street. This is because the Camp Street bus hub stops won’t be available once major redevelopment work starts on O’Connells Shopping Centre.
“Shifting the bus stops will help ensure continued and safe and easy access to public transport while this building is being refurbished. Being able to continue to provide this is important to maintain the growing popularity of the Queenstown Orbus service as a way for both locals and visitors to move around the area. It also aligns with possible public transport bus hub options on Stanley Street.”
Mr Johnston says in considering feedback, the Transport Agency will take into account the potential impacts on property owners and occupiers, all road users, the community and public transport services.
