The NZ Transport Agency advises motorists to expect delays when travelling on state highways in the Bay of Plenty over the next week, as contractors carry out ‘mill and fill’ works as part of an asphalt repair programme.
Stop/go traffic management and speed restrictions will be in place on sites along SH2 Takitimu Drive, and SH36 at times during the works, which involve digging up sections of road and laying hot asphalt to repair the pavement.
The work will be carried out at night between the hours of 7pm and 6am to reduce the impact on traffic, however motorists should allow extra time when travelling on the routes.
Other road work which may cause delays is detailed below to help people plan their journey.
State Highway 2 between Domain Road and Mangatawa Interchange
Monday 6th July through to Thursday 9th July (between 9.00am and 4.00pm)
A 50km/ h speed restriction and lane closures will be in place next week while contractors as work on the Tauranga Eastern Link continues.
Traffic heading towards Tauranga (westbound) will be restricted to one lane for four days, while a series of lane closures and diversions will be in place for traffic travelling towards Te Puke (eastbound). Motorists should allow for short delays when travelling on this route.
SH2 north safety works
Stop/go traffic management, lane changes and speed restrictions will be in place along parts of SH2 between Tauranga and Waihi this month as a major safety improvement programme continues.
Contractors will be working on six sites north of Katikati and eight sites south of Katikati. Motorists are advised to allow an extra 10 minutes when travelling on this route.
SH2A Turret Road – Kerb and channelling
Speed restrictions and traffic management will be in place from Thursday July 2 while contractors undertake kerb and channel works on a stretch of Turret Road.
Work hours are from 9am until 4pm to reduce traffic delays at peak times and some of the work may be carried out at night. Motorists are advised to allow an extra five minutes when travelling on the route.
SH2 Papamoa - Shoulder earthworks and benching
People travelling on SH2 past the old site of the Papamoa Hall should expect short delays while contractors carry out earthworks and benching works.
Contra-flow traffic management and speed restrictions of 30km/h or 50/km/h will be in place at times until July 31. Motorists are asked to be alert and drive with care around the work site.
