The New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) advises that State Highway 3 east of the Awakino tavern has now reopened, following the clearance of two slips caused by heavy rain in the area.
Single-lane access was restored around 5.45 pm last night and two-lane access was available from 7.30 pm. However, another slip in the same area occurred at 11.40 pm last night, again blocking road access. The NZTA's road crews cleared one lane by 1.15 am this morning and they are currently working to restore two-lane access once again to this section of SH3.
The NZTA would like to thank motorists for their patience in either delaying their travel or using alternative routes, to allow time for these slips to be cleared.
