There is an increasing focus to improve public transport to reduce the use of private motor vehicles. Most of these efforts focus on options for people travelling in major cities and at peak times. These do not address the needs of those travelling at other times, or in other parts of Aotearoa New Zealand.
Addressing transport disadvantage or poor transport options to access social and economic opportunities, education, and health services would mean people in under-served communities can also participate more in society, enjoy greater independence, meet more people, enjoy more physical and mental activity. Reducing the use of a private motor vehicles will also reduce emissions.
