The challenges aligned with the Government Policy Statement on land transport 2021 and the Transport Outcomes Framework.
The challenges focused on key transport priorities such as encouraging mode shift, increasing accessible and equitable transport options, decarbonising freight, improving road safety outcomes, optimising the network, and reducing maintenance spend.
The challenges were deliberately designed to have a narrow focus. This provided clarity to the sector about the specific problem we were wanting to solve and the ability to measure the impact the innovation could deliver more easily.
