Walking and cycling activity class

 

Introduction

This section provides information, processes and procedures to assist Approved Organisations and the NZTA (state highways) in developing walking and cycling activities.

 

This page relates to the 2012-15 NLTP A National Land Transport Programme Interrelated and complementary combination of activities that, when delivered in a coordinated manner, produce synergies – can span more than one work category and more than one activity class, e.g. a programme could include a road improvement and public transport improvement activities. adopted by the NZTA under section 19 of the LTMA, as from time to time amended or varied only.

Developing a programme

To be considered for funding, Approved Organisations must develop activities for inclusion and prioritisation within the Regional Land Transport Programme Interrelated and complementary combination of activities that, when delivered in a coordinated manner, produce synergies – can span more than one work category and more than one activity class, e.g. a programme could include a road improvement and public transport improvement activities. . Land transport Transport of people and freight on land by any means and the infrastructure, goods and services facilitating that transport. Includes coastal shipping and associated infrastructure. programmes must take into account regional priorities and the strategic environment.

 

Work categories

The work categories are:

 

To qualify, the facilities must:

  • form part of a transport network
  • integrate walking and cycling with other transport modes
  • be identified either specifically or generically in either:
    •  an existing walking and/or cycling strategy or implementation plan, preferably supported by the NZTA; or
    • within a supported integrated strategy or endorsed package
  • induce higher numbers of pedestrians and cyclists (or reduce the rate of decline)
  • improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists.

 

Model walking and cycling communities

Model walking/cycling communities were communities selected by the NZTA Board The NZ Transport Agency Board. to undertake an accelerated investment programme to achieve the outcomes of an integrated network which prioritises walking and cycling.
