Work category 452: Cycling facilities

 

Introduction

This work category A type of activity – not confined to a particular activity class, e.g. new roads (work category 323) appears in:

* activity class 12 – local road improvements
* activity class 13 – state highways improvements
provides for the construction/implementation of new or improved cycle facilities, and shared pedestrian and cycle paths.

 

The construction of on road interventions required to improve the safety and amenity value of cycling, for example a wider carriageway That portion of the road devoted particularly to the use of travelling vehicles, including shoulders That portion of the carriageway outside the traffic lanes. . , vehicle parking configurations, pinch points or kerb A border of rigid material, usually raised, which is formed at the edge of a traffic lane or shoulder. structure is eligible for funding assistance.

 

This definition applies to the 2012-15 NLTP A National Land Transport Programme Interrelated and complementary combination of activities that, when delivered in a coordinated manner, produce synergies – can span more than one work category and more than one activity class, e.g. a programme could include a road improvement and public transport improvement activities. adopted by the NZTA under section 19 of the LTMA, as from time to time amended or varied .  For the 2015-18 NLTP please refer to the updated definition for work category 452.

 

Examples of qualifying activities

Examples include, but may not be limited to:

  • shared pedestrian and cycle paths
  • bicycle parking/racks
  • kerb A border of rigid material, usually raised, which is formed at the edge of a traffic lane or shoulder. crossings
  • signage
  • new or improved cycle lanes, including on existing bridges A structure designed to carry a road or path over an obstacle by spanning it. This includes culverts with a cross-sectional area greater than or equal to 3.4 square metres.
  • separate cycle paths
  • widening the existing carriageway That portion of the road devoted particularly to the use of travelling vehicles, including shoulders That portion of the carriageway outside the traffic lanes. . to provide cycle lanes, and
  • all markings, traffic signals, lighting, etc necessary to bring the facility into service.

 

Other potential activities that are not in the above list should be discussed with NZTA for eligibility.

 

Exclusions

Cycle facilities used purely for recreational purposes are not eligible for financial assistance.

 

Funding assistance rate

The funding assistance rate for this work category A type of activity – not confined to a particular activity class, e.g. new roads (work category 323) appears in:

* activity class 12 – local road improvements
* activity class 13 – state highways improvements
is:

  • the Approved Organisation’s  construction rate
  • 100 percent for the NZTA (state highways)
