Key messages

  • Too many people in New Zealand die or get serious injuries from crashes where someone was speeding.
  • While speed is often not the only factor that contributes to a crash, it’s crucial in determining the severity of a crash.
  • Drivers give a variety of excuses for their speeding and police have heard them all. These excuses don’t mean anything when you’re faced with the consequences of a crash which could be fines, injuries, or death.
