In our capacity as a regulator, the Land Transport Rule: Setting of Speed Limits 2024 (the Rule) requires us to provide road controlling authorities (RCAs) with speed management information and guidance for their roading network. Guidance and information is provided via Guidance – Land Transport Rule: Setting of Speed Limits 2024 and the geospatial MegaMaps tool.
Please use them when reviewing and setting speed limits.
Note: MegaMaps is scheduled to be updated later this year. We will update users and associated information as appropriate at that time.

MegaMaps includes data sets mapped to New Zealand’s roading network – speed limits, crash risk, infrastructure risk rating, mean operating speeds, traffic volumes, schools and kura, plus the One Network Framework. This information (some of which is due to be updated in December 2024) is designed to help RCAs in setting speed limits.
