The way we think about road safety has, and will, continue to evolve as we learn from the experience of others, try new things, and share our stories and successes with others. As a sector we need to commit to continuous learning and adapting as the evidence about what works grows and new Safe System technologies are developed and implemented.
Here you’ll find learning tools and resources that you can use and share with your colleagues. You’ll also be able to see what development opportunities are available.

Resources to help you communicate our road safety approach
The Safe System Audit combines both the Safe System Assessment framework and the identification of road safety concerns (using the traditional road safety audit procedures), into a single Safe System audit for use throughout the project development lifecycle.
This program covers the 2022 Austroads Guide to Road Safety Part 6: Road Safety Audit and the new Aotearoa Safe System audit guidelines.
This course is relevant to individuals who wish to become a Safe System Auditor, those required to manage the Safe System Audit process or current Road Safety Auditors that wish to undertake a refresher course.
The next course is planned for May 2025. There will be 6 online modules:

There are now two online training courses available for Raised Crossings.
Raised crossings are a treatment in the Safe System toolkit. The Raised Crossing Principles course is a 4-part online series where you’ll learn the why of raised crossings, where raised crossings can go, who should be able to use raised crossings (hint: everyone) and how to design raised crossings.
This training has been developed by some of Australia and New Zealand’s road safety practitioners and researchers.
The next course is planned for March 2025. There will be 4 online modules:

Applying the learnings presented in the Raised Crossings Principles training course to the best-practices design of Raised Crossing solutions in the real world.
The Raised Crossing Design course will assist attendees in understanding key design considerations, issues and targeted solutions that commonly arise in the detailed design process, and will provide guidance to:

The Safe System engineering workshop is a week-long course that gives participants a thorough understanding of what a safe transport and road system looks like.
The workshop offers a mix of theory, classroom, and real-world site practical exercises delivered by some of New Zealand’s top road safety experts.
Attendees include engineering and planning professionals, system designers and auditors, and those managing network outcome contracts (NOCS).
Note: The next course will be delivered in 2025
