Safety camera system detailed business case

We are delivering a new approach to safety cameras to help reduce the number of people being killed and seriously injured on our roads. This will keep our communities safe and encourage people to make safe choices, by increasing the number and type of safety cameras on high-risk areas of the roading network in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Safety cameras help to make our roads safer by encouraging people to drive at the correct speed. When everyone travels at safe speeds, everyone can get to where they’re going safely.

People make mistakes, and some crashes will continue to happen, but these mistakes don’t need to result in death or serious injury. Travelling at safe speeds means that when crashes do happen, people are more likely to walk away unharmed.

The Detailed Business Case (DBC) proposes investment in six key areas that will take a measured approach to introducing the new technology, systems and business operations needed to embed the Waka Kotahi Safety Camera System (SCS).
