Let us know it wasn't you for a safety camera notice

Use this form to tell us if you've received a safety camera infringement or traffic offence notice but aren't responsible.  For example:

  • someone else was driving
  • you sold the vehicle, or
  • the vehicle or plates were stolen.

If it's an infringement notice, tell us as soon as possible. We can only transfer liability for a notice when the fee hasn’t been paid, and before the payment due date on a reminder notice.

If it’s a traffic offence notice, you must tell us within 10 working days from the date the notice was issued.

Who can complete this form

You can only transfer a notice if you're:

  • the person named on the notice, or
  • a person they've given specific authority to act on their behalf, or
  • an authorised representative of a company or organisation.

What you need to supply

You must provide a photo or scanned copy of a correctly completed statutory declaration. We won't accept declarations if they're incomplete.

Your statutory declaration must be witnessed. You must initial the first page of the statutory declaration and any alterations made.

We'll process your request and tell you if we've accepted or declined it, and why.

If the statutory declaration is:

  • accepted, we'll transfer the notice to the person you named and send them a new notice. 
  • not accepted, you must either pay the infringement fee or contact NZTA before the final due date and tell us you want to take other action.
