Clause 5.4(6) of the Rule specifies the colours and positions of pavement markers that can be used within the roadway. The Rule specifies that:

A pavement marker that is applied or attached permanently to the roadway must be white or yellow, except if it is a marker that is:

(a) blue and is installed on, or just to the left of, the centre-line of the roadway and is:

(iii) a non-flashing pavement marker used only to mark the presence of a fire hydrant or other water source used for firefighting; or

(iv) a flashing, illuminated pavement marker used to indicate that the road may be slippery due to frost, ice, or snow; or

(b) red and is installed only on the left-hand side of the roadway to mark the edge of the safe, useable portion of the roadway; or

(c) green and is installed on, or just to the left or, the centre-line of the roadway and is used only to mark the presence of a culvert or other drain under the roadway.

Placement of blue and green RRPMs are listed in specific sites; however, in general, blue and green RRPMs (fire hydrants/culverts) should be in line with other RRPMs installed on the road. In some locations, they may be the only RRPMs installed and it is therefore desirable they are mounted in a uniform position, central relative to the road width.
