Permanent delineator posts should have retroreflective panels attached. The colour and position of the retroreflective panels should be as follows:
- oriented towards approaching motor vehicle traffic;
- white when the post is on the left-hand side of the roadway (including between lanes of traffic travelling in the same direction). In these cases, the retroreflective panel is only required on the side of the posts oriented towards the single direction of approaching traffic. However, the reflective panel may be continuous around the post;
- yellow when the post is on the right-hand side of the roadway. That is, it is preferable for the retroreflective panels on the post to appear white to road users travelling in the primary direction and yellow (or un-reflectorised) for those road users travelling in the opposing direction; and
- yellow when the post is between lanes of traffic travelling in opposing directions. Where central delineator posts are between opposing directions of traffic, the retroreflective panels should be on both sides of the posts or continuous around the post.
The retroreflectivity and size of the retroreflective panels should:
- be no less than Class 400 (Refer to AS/NZS 1906.1:2017 for more information on retroreflective sheeting); and
- have two horizontal panels across the side of the post oriented towards approaching traffic or around the circumference of the delineator posts as appropriate, with dimensions and position as described in Table 2‑38.
