How electronic tolling works

Electronic toll collection uses cameras and sensors to capture an image of your vehicle’s registration plate and assign the correct toll.

As you approach the toll point

There are no toll booths, so you don’t need to slow down, stop or look for loose change.

An image is captured

As your vehicle passes under the toll point, cameras capture an image of the vehicle’s registration plate number. The toll system reads the registration plate and assigns the correct toll.

Your toll is calculated

The amount you pay depends on the type of vehicle you’re driving. There's no extra charge for towing a caravan or trailer.

The system automatically checks to see if your vehicle is linked to an account. If it is, the toll transaction is loaded against the account and the toll is automatically deducted.

If your vehicle isn’t linked to an account, the system keeps a record. You then have 5 working days to pay. If you haven’t paid within 5 working days, we'll send a Toll payment notice to the registered person of the vehicle.
