We are progressively implementing our passing and overtaking policy. Current efforts are mainly focused on the following activities.
Strategic studies are currently being undertaken for selected high-priority state highways. Passing and overtaking plans provide input into these types of study.
Regional stakeholder engagement is part of the strategic studies process and may help with possible acceptance and integration of passing and overtaking input into their work/activity programmes. The Transport Agency is interested in working with other organisations, which are seeking similar objectives.
Under the Transport Agency's research programme, a research project is being undertaken into the operating characteristics and economic evaluation of 2+1 lanes.
Another research project currently underway will help to determine the levels of service for various layouts of overtaking zones and passing lanes.
Passing lanes and other related projects are included within the State Highway Plan.
