If you’re planning on making a change to your rail activities or a change to your organisation that may affect your rail activities, and the change has an element of safety risk involved with it, then you’ll first need to let Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency know.
You can find out all about this process on our Safety case variations, replacements and change notifications page
If the change warrants a safety case variation or replacement, then you’ll need to carry out the required work, provide the relevant documentation submit an application form. This form acknowledges that the time Waka Kotahi spends reviewing and processing the application is chargeable ($120/hr) [11(1)(a) and 11(4)(external link)].
As mentioned in the licence application fees section, our website provides comprehensive guidance on safety case development, and gives you the ability to access important information and examples without having to engage Waka Kotahi. While we’re more than happy to help and provide advice about your safety case, quite often the advice we give when reviewing a safety case is already on the website.
