NZ Transport Agency research identified inaccuracies in the naming of aggregate sources. Valid consistently named source data is critical to the management of pavement and surfacing asset performance, especially skid resistance. We have a specific focus on the in-situ performance of aggregates based on the inherent properties from the aggregate source, not the distribution point.
The aggregate renaming project which started in 2014, involved a review of existing aggregate sources/quarry names in RAMM to confirm the correct name, actual aggregate source, location and operator of each quarry. This resulted in the addition of new aggregate sources, as well as the updating of existing sources (removal and merging sources or updating of details). The project is still on-going, with a number of existing sources still being verified.
To enable better future management of aggregate sources, we have created an online map of current approved sources to allow users to identify any new or missing sources, without creating duplicates of the approved sources.
If there are any missing or incorrect sources, please contact us.
