Standards and guidelines

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) maintains an up-to-date catalogue of approved and archived standards (specifications, guidelines, procedures, policies and manuals) and standard designs for NZTA and approved organisation functions and activities, and supplier functions and activities.

We regularly consult with the sector and update documents within our Standards and Guidelines Catalogue. Information on current consultations and new, recently updated and archived documents is shared in our regular Technical Advice Note Standards and Guidelines Update newsletter.

Framework and hierarchy

NZTA’s Standards and Guidelines Catalogue encompasses a wide range of operational policy, guidelines and specifications. Current work programme

NZTA publishes an annual forward work programme providing visibility of standards and guidelines we are currently working on, or plan to begin working on, in the next year. This includes standards being developed, reviewed, revised, consulted on and archived.

Transport Services Standards and Guidelines development

All standards with the catalogue are expected to be initiated, developed, reviewed and archived in accordance with the processes detailed in this section.

Standardised design catalogue

NZTA develops standardised designs which are to be used on the State Highway Roads of National Significance. This contains critical information for all stages of delivery of these projects from initiations through to design and construction.
