NZTA and Road Controlling Authorities (RCAs) outsource work on infrastructure projects, infrastructure maintenance and corporate goods and services to private sector suppliers, including consultants and contractors.
Suppliers have important parts to play in the sector, enjoying the full benefits of implementing a national Asset Management Data Standard (AMDS). For example, as data collectors, trainers, and role models of managing change well.
This page provides resources and messages for suppliers to help them with implementing the AMDS into an RCA.
If you’re a supplier, then watch our video below for an introduction to the Asset Management Data Standard specifically targeted for you.
For AMDS, the term supplier refers to any organisation engaged by an RCA to undertake work related to transport assets. For example:
asset maintenance
capital projects
data collection
data entry into an asset management system
asset inspections / condition assessments
asset valuations.
The AMDS provides suppliers with the opportunity to standardise processes and systems, for example:
data collection and quality assurance checks can be standardised across clients
new staff who have undertaken similar roles will understand data collection requirements, and
consistent reporting processes across clients.
Start your preparation for implementing the AMDS as early as possible
It is really important that suppliers start to plan for AMDS. We recommend the following steps:
1. Read the AMDS information for suppliers document
This document has been written for suppliers that directly use an RCAs asset management database or use a staging or moderation instance of an RCA database to enter, validate or analyse asset data.
Implementation of AMDS into the transport sector is phased over a five-year period from 1 July 2022 to 30 June 2027. In most cases, RCAs are grouped by region.
We recommend RCAs discuss their AMDS implementation strategy with suppliers at least 12-18 months before their planned ‘go live’ implementation date.
Identify the systems and processes that will change when your customers adopt the AMDS.
The AMDS current state analysis template helps capture information about how asset data is collected and stored and identifies the systems and processes that use asset data.
4. Keep informed of new releases of the data standard
The best place to find information about the Asset Management Data Standard is our Data Standard Releases web page. This page includes the asset hierarchy, the released version of the data standard and the provisional releases.
