- M03 Specification for sub-base aggregates: An update to M03 Notes (1986) is being developed by a cross-industry working group, and this will be circulated for comment once the working group has agreed on the draft update. The intention is to publish M03 as a specification with prescribed aggregate properties, but also allow for the use of performance-related criteria to characterise aggregates that do not necessarily meet the prescribed criteria. It’s expected a draft will be circulated for consultation and feedback early 2025. For more information, please contact grant.bosma@nzta.govt.nz
- NZTA P03, P04, P18 Specifications for chip sealing: These method-based specifications for chip sealing are being reviewed and modernised. Consultation has taken place with the feedback to be considered by the technical working group. The expectation is that these documents will be published early/mid 2025. For more information, please contact grant.bosma@nzta.govt.nz
- Update of Pavement Design Guidelines as a pavement design standard: NZTA are presently updating and rewriting the New Zealand pavement design guidance in the form of multiple interlinked design specifications, containing a Process and Specification document, and Notes to support the specification. A total of 8 of these design specifications, or Design Elements, have been created to date, with several already reviewed by the National Pavements Technical Group (NPTG). These are presently being reviewed and edited by NZTA and may be combined to reduce the number of design elements. The next stage for these design elements will be for public consultation. This stage is expected to start in March 2025, once the NZTA review process has been completed, and will run for 2 weeks for each of the design elements. As more design elements are created, these will undergo a similar process of review. For more information, please contact rob.damhuis@nzta.govt.nz
