This document describes the audits conducted by the Safety Audit Manager at Transfund New Zealand from 1996 to 2004. Road controlling authorities were not required to conduct these audits, but a few modified the procedures for their own purposes. The Performance Monitoring Unit of the NZ Trasnport Agency does not use this methodology any more. It uses Road Infrastructure Safety Assessment (RISA) as a more evidence based method. Some road controlling authorities continue to use Safety audit of existing roads procedures.
