Gaps have been identified in the ability of emission models to predict real-world emissions from New Zealand light and heavy vehicles. This research was commissioned to help address these gaps and provide more certainty about our vehicle emissions estimates. This will help enable actions to reduce emissions from transport to be targeted in the right way. 

Stage 1 of this research has found that light duty petrol and diesel vehicles are the vehicle classes with the highest impact on fleet emissions in New Zealand and highest associated level of uncertainty contained in real-world emission factors.
