Estimation of the density of compacted aggregate layers by direct transmission

The T23 method for the estimation of the density of compacted aggregate layers by direct transmission is used to quantify the vertical uniformity of aggregate compacted in a pavement layer. It is particularly applicable to aggregates stabilised in-situ in accordance with NZTA B05 specification.

The areas covered by the method include:

  • apparatus required
  • testing procedure
  • calculation of the estimated density for subsurface layers
  • reporting requirements.

T23 is a new specification.
