The Land Transport Act 1998 allows operators of vehicles working on critical agricultural tasks to apply for a 'variation' to legal work time hours.
An example of a critical task is harvesting. Allowances are also made for tasks such as spraying or planting crops. Agricultural contractors need to apply for a variation, which will be approved in writing and issued by the NZ Transport Agency before it can be used.
On this page you will find further information and application resources related to this 'variation' process.
