The Nelson region currently faces a number of transport-related issues, including: the need for efficient transport networks to support freight and tourism flows; a heavy reliance on private motor vehicles; and a number of safety-related concerns.

The 2024–27 National Land Transport Programme is our commitment to a safe, accessible land transport system for New Zealand now and in the future.

The National Land Transport Programme (NLTP) 2012–15 contains the land transport activities that the NZ Transport Agency anticipates funding over the next three years.

The data available in the NLTP activities reporting tool is the same as the tables of activities listed in the NLTP documents on this webpage.

The activities in the NLTP, which originate from councils and the NZ Transport Agency, are submitted to the NZ Transport Agency through regional land transport programmes.

Links to other regions are crucial to the economy of the West Coast region.
