The Transport Recovery East Coast (TREC) Alliance is working to restore State Highway 2 through Otoko Hill. Nine projects will improve the stabilisation of the surrounding hillsides and drainage. A further seven sites are planned between Gisborne and the Bay of Plenty boundary.
The Palmerston North Integrated Transport Initiative (PNITI) is a package of projects designed to support growth of freight distribution in the region while also improving transport safety and choice for the whole community.
The SH1 Papakura to Bombay project is part of a longer-term strategic transport network being investigated and delivered to support growth in South Auckland. Stage 1 of the project, Papakura to Drury, is currently being delivered as a Road of Regional Significance.
Now the Peka Peka to Ōtaki Expressway is open, the status of old SH1 as a state highway will be removed and responsibility for it transferred from NZTA to Kāpiti Coast District Council. As the road will officially become a local road, works are required to ensure it’s fit-for-purpose.
The Peka Peka to Ōtaki Expressway, opened in December 2022, has reduced congestion and improved travel time reliability for people and freight in the area. The expressway bypasses Ōtaki township and is part of the Kāpiti Expressway, connecting to the Mackay’s to Peka Peka section further south.
The NZ Transport Agency has lodged resource consent applications and a notice of requirement for a designation (NoR) in relation to a future section of State Highway 1 (SH1), formed to an expressway standard, from Peka Peka to North Ōtaki (the Expressway).
We are planning to replace the single-lane Pepe Stream Bridge on SH25 in Tairua with a new two-lane bridge.
Petone to Grenada Link Road and the Cross Valley Link has been identified as one of the Roads of National Significance. The next steps will include undertaking investigations and considering options for this project.
Port Marsden Highway to Whangārei is a Road of National Significance (RoNS). It is section 3 of the Northland Corridor, a 100-kilometre strategic route connecting Auckland to Whangārei.
