Case studies

In developing the ONF, we worked with a number of organisations in trialling the application of the ONF in a range of scenarios, including:

  • Growth Planning / land-use planning
  • Mode share / mode shift
  • Economic development
  • Movement and place conflict 
  • Asset management planning

These RCAs have provided valuable information to highlight the various applications of the ONF:  Palmerston North City Council, Waikato District Council, Ruapehu District Council and Queenstown Lakes District Council.

Palmerston North City Council

The ONF project facilitated a workshop with PNCC in late 2020 to trial how the ONF movement and place classifications could assist in both understanding the issue and enabling the multi-disciplinary discussion to aid planning the way ahead.

Waikato District Council

Waikato District Council developed a clear and structured way to discuss and agree the organisation’s levels of service (and performance measures) including how these will drive and deliver on the Council’s community outcomes and aspirations.

Ruapehu District Council

Ruapehu District Council is taking a customer focused approach to our asset management planning, putting people and places front of mind, rather than just thinking about assets.

Queenstown Lakes District Council
