NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) supports users of our Business Case Approach (BCA) by providing guidance, online learning and support, including a community of practice.

As part of our BCA refresh (2023) we are updating our learning opportunities for the BCA to provide up-to-date information and to help grow the skills you need for business case development.

Get started with the Business Case Approach learning overview

The Business Case Approach learning overview document outlines all of the skills and knowledge involved in creating effective business cases, as well as the resources you can use to develop your capability. It's a great place to get started with your business case learning, or figure out what you want to learn next.

Introduction to the investment lifecycle

This video sets the scene for your BCA learning by explaining how investment in the land transport system works at a high level, and where business cases fit into the big picture.

Learning modules

Our learning modules help you grow the knowledge you need for developing business cases, and the skills you need to do it well.

They include learning opportunities that introduce the BCA, that focus on specific phases and cases, and that develop the skills that make for a robust and compelling business case.

A note about accessibility: we recommend viewing these modules through a web browser, using a computer. This provides the most accessible experience, although the modules can still be used on mobile devices. We are working to improve the accessibility of all our modules, and welcome any feedback to bcacommunity@nzta.govt.nz
