Taharoto/Wairau corridor – construction and design funding

Purpose

To seek the Board's approval for funding the construction of stage 4 and the design of the remaining stages 3 and 5 to 8 of the Auckland Regional Transport Authority's (for North Shore City Council) Taharoto/Wairau corridor project in Auckland.

Resolutions

The NZ Transport Agency Board:

  1. approves funding for the construction of stage 4 of the Auckland Regional Transport Authority's (for North Shore City Council) Taharoto/Wairau corridor project, at an estimated cost of $1.31 million and at a funding assistance rate of 53% (NZ Transport Agency share $0.69 million) from N funds;
  2. approves funding for the design of stages 3 and 5 to 8 of the Auckland Regional Transport Authority's (for North Shore City Council) Taharoto/Wairau corridor project, at an estimated cost of $1.30 million and a funding assistance rate of 53% (NZ Transport Agency share $0.69 million) from N funds;
  3. delegates to the NLTP Review Group authority to approve funding for the construction of the remaining stages of this project, at an estimated cost of $12.20 million;
  4. notes the reasons for this decision are as set out in the Reasons for recommendation section; and
  5. agrees to take Board paper 08/12/0119 out of Committee when the Board has published the notice of decision.

Reason for the decision

The assessment profile for this activity has been determined as being of high seriousness and urgency, high effectiveness and high efficiency.

The project contributes to meeting NZTS targets and the purpose and objectives of the LTMA by supporting an increase in PT and active mode shares, improving safety particularly for cyclists and assisting economic development by supporting urban growth and providing multimodal connections to a significant passenger transport interchange at Smales Farm. It is confirmed that the matters in sections 20(2) and 20(5) of the LTMA have been satisfied, and that the matters in section 20(3) have been taken into account
