NZ Transport Agency
To seek the Board's approval to invest in the detailed design and construction of the Huntly section of the Waikato Expressway Road of National Significance.
4 July 2014
The NZ Transport Agency Board approves $458.12 million for the detailed design and construction associated with the Huntly section of the Waikato Expressway.
The Huntly section is an integral part of the Waikato Expressway Strategy and makes a nationally significant contribution to SH1, which is a key freight and tourist route, by improving journey time reliability, more efficient freight supply chains and a safer environment for road users. Local benefits include improved safety in the area near the Maori cemetery on Taupiri Mountain.
The project has been assessed against the New Zealand Transport Agency's Assessment Framework. The assessment profile for the Waikato Expressway RoNS remains at high strategic fit, high effectiveness and low economic efficiency.
We confirm that the matters in sections 20(2) and 20(5) of the LTMA have been satisfied, and that the matters in section 20(3) have been taken into account.
