Events such as rainstorms and earthquakes can cause damage to roads, and emergency work is needed to repair and restore roads to get people and freight moving again.
We set aside an allocation each year in the National Land Transport Programme (NLTP) for this emergency work. Local authorities and our own state highway operations apply for this funding when damage occurs.
