Contractors have cleared tonnes of soft soil and vegetation from a section of State Highway 36 (SH36) at Mangorewa Gorge to reduce the risk of slips in the area.
The NZ Transport Agency says it will be midday tomorrow at the earliest before a large rock fall on State highway 6 south of Makarora is cleared and the highway opened again.
