With traffic already building on key highways, the NZ Transport Agency encourages everyone heading off for a break to “know before you go” and check the Agency’s Labour Weekend Hotspots map.
Drivers are advised to expect significant delays getting through Templeton west of Christchurch thismorning as the highway was earlier closed due to a crash. Given the busy time of the morning, traffic is backed up.

A crash between two cars this afternoon has affected State Highway 88 at St Leonards, Dunedin. A detour using local roads is available for cars/light vehicles, however, there is no alternate route for heavy vehicles.
