Waka Kotahi advises that as flood waters have receded, more roads have been reopened, especially to allow freight to carry essential goods and services.
Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is advising motorists to travel with caution as roads in the Northland region begin to re-open following widespread damage caused by Cyclone Gabrielle.
Northland remains largely isolated this evening due to multiple slips on SH1 and flooding on SH16 (in particular the lower part of Kaukapakapa, Helensville & West Coast Road) and SH14.
The full force of Cyclone Gabrielle is making itself known in the Coromandel and East Waikato, causing extremely dangerous driving conditions due to slips, flooding, storm surges and debris on the roads.
